Antoine-Frédéric Ozanam
Antoine-Frédéric Ozanam born 23 April 1813 – 8 September 1853) was a French literary scholar, lawyer, journalist and equal rights advocate. He founded with fellow students the Conference of Charity, later known as the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul. He was beatified by Pope John Paul II in the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris in 1997, hence he may be properly called Blessed Frederic by Catholics. His feast day is 9 September.

Long Island Society of St. Vincent de Paul
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1948 on Long Island.
SVDPLI is the professional arm that oversees 49 Conferences across Nassau & Suffolk Counties. These parish oriented conferences comprise over 1,100 Vincentian volunteers who provide direct assistance to needy individuals and families in Nassau and Suffolk County.

There are many ways that you can get involved with the Society.
You can
- Become a Vincentian Volunteer at St. James Parish
- Donate money, clothes, household items, and/or your used vehicle.
- Volunteer at The Daily Bread every Sunday at 3:00PM in the Church Basement
- Conduct a food/coat/school supplies drive at your child’s school or at work.
- Adopt a family for Christmas
- Help collect and assemble Thanksgiving Baskets.
- Participate in our Annual Events: the Golf Classic in the summer or the Friends of the Poor Walk in the fall.
- Join a committee that focuses on helping us get our message to the broader Long Island community.
We welcome you and your family to explore our participatory options as well as any new ideas that you have, and we thank you for your interest.
